The county seat of Williamson County Illiniois, Marion caters to it's residents with many recreational and cultural activities. Within the city's seven parks visitors and residents can enjoy a variety of Baseball Fields, public swimming pools and playgrounds. Evenings are well spent enjoying the performances within the  Marion Cultural and Civic Center and Marion Movie Theatres. For those who enjoy the Great Outdoors, Recreational areas nearby include Rend Lake, Lake of Egypt, Little Grassy Lake and Devils Kitchen Lake, as well as The Shawnee National Forest. Ferne Clyffe State Park, Garden of the Gods and Giant City State Park are also nearby. Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge offers 44,000 acres of land and water. Major habitat types on the refuge include hardwood forest, agricultural land, grazing units, brushland, wetlands, and lakes. This all sits between Carbondale, to Marion, and south to Union County.
